Software & Hardware
Operators in the industry retail computer and software products including desktop computers, laptops, tablets, printers, keyboards, computer game consoles and packaged software (excluding game software). Industry products are purchased from manufacturers and wholesalers and then sold to the general public for private use or to corporate clients for business use.
Computer and software retailers have faced difficult trading conditions over the past five years, with revenue expected to post weak annualised growth of 1.6% over the five years through 2015-16. Widespread economic uncertainty due to instability in global financial markets led to volatility in consumer sentiment and prompted consumers to become more cautious about their discretionary spending habits. Aggressive price discounting among operators was also prominent due to the rapidly increasing popularity of online shopping.
